Intel Science Talent Search Competition Semifinalists
For more than six years with Alumni Foundation support, teams of Tech students have been conducting pioneering investigations into a new and emerging sub-discipline. The area of investigation known as solar hydrogen electric bio-mimetic energetics (sHe-BioME) encompasses: the fluid dynamics of aquatic and air borne organisms, the chemical kinetics and electrochemical thermodynamics of hydrogen combustion, the anatomy and physiology of aquatic and air borne organisms and mechano-tronics (robotics). Research teams under the supervision of Dr. Horace E. Walcott and the late Carl Lange '55 have been designing and developing drone submersible crafts, drone boats and drone aircrafts powered by hydrogen electricity, including solar hydrogen electricity.

The event was sponsored by the Alumni Foundation, and Tech’s Young Entrepreneur Association (YEA) and National Honor Society. Many of the participating alumni – who were universally impressed with the enthusiasm and commitment of today’s Technites – said they would also explore future opportunities to create internships for the students, and in becoming involved in alumni industry groups.
