Tech Theater Heads "Into the Woods” in April

Building on last year’s successful production of “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” the Tech theater program will present another Stephen Sondheim classic, “Into The Woods,” on April 7th and 8th at 6:00 p.m. and April 11th and 12th at 4:00 p.m.

The storyline weaves a plot around the challenges faced by notable Brothers Grimm characters including Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella and Rapunzel. The musical opened on Broadway in 1987 starring Bernadette Peters and was reprised in 2002 featuring Vanessa Williams. [Read Full Story]

Students Excel in Public Speaking Competitions

Winner, Emilie Dabrowski

After hearing that the average person feared public speaking more than death itself, Jerry Seinfeld concluded that “At a funeral, the average person would rather be in the casket than giving the eulogy.” If that’s true, then the Technites who participated in the Shakespeare Recitation Contest and the Irish Heritage Oratory Competition are far from “average.”

When asked why she entered this year’s Shakespeare Recitation Contest, first place winner Emilie Dubrowski ’11 responded simply, “for fun.” Emilie, who recited lines from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” also enjoys singing, Polish folk and ballroom dancing as well as poetry recitations. Jessica Terekhov ’12 and Henry Pines ’11 finished second and third respectively.

BTHS Wrestlers Capture City Title
Tech Wrestlers Proudly Display Winning PSAL Trophy

Just a few years ago no one took them seriously, but the Brooklyn Tech boys wrestling team has now quieted the skeptics by capturing its first PSAL championship title with a 43-26 victory over Grand Street Campus.

Coach Jean Brutus smiled broadly when recalling how in 2007, fellow coaches referred to him as “coach of those nerds.” Brutus had no background in wrestling when Principal Randy Asher asked him to start a team from scratch. After a crash course in the sport, Brutus was motivated to create a program that would be “revered.”

Anthony S. Bartolomeo '70, President and CEO of Pennoni Associates, was named to the Marcellus Shale Advisory Commission by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett. Bartolomeo, who serves as the Chairman of the Pennsylvania Environmental Council, is one of 30 members chosen from the environmental community, state and local government and the natural gas industry to promote the efficient, environmentally sound and cost-effective development of Marcellus Shale and other natural gas resources.

 Dr. Leonard Bloksberg '46, a longtime social work professor at Boston University and a social work advocate, died of prostate cancer in his Florida home on Feb. 13. He was 81. Dr. Bloksberg had been featured in the Summer, 2010 e-newsletter article, “The ‘Four Horsemen’ of ’46.”
