Recognition Dinner Held for Class Reps

The Alumni Foundation hosted a dinner in Tech’s faculty cafeteria on October 3rd to thank the class representatives who helped make the 2011 Homecoming a rousing success and to encourage the 2012 reps to aim even higher. They were welcomed by Foundation CEO Matt Mandery.

Class reps were applauded as they received Certificates of Appreciation. Retired cardiologist George Moran ’61 said that Tech was “…the school I felt I learned the most from.” Business Analyst Michael Anatole ’81 expressed similar affection for his alma mater: “When you’re called by Brooklyn Tech, you show up.” Moran and Anatole gave recruitment advice to 2012 class reps and both spoke of their enjoyment in reconnecting with class members.

Foundation Consultant Liz Sciabarra, encouraged by the “spirit in the room,” referred to the attendees as “a small army who love this school.” She spoke of the many Alumni programs and events offered in addition to Homecoming and suggested that class reps could serve as “our go to people” for all future events. “We’ve roped you in for life,” she shouted to laughter and applause.

Principal Randy Asher thanked attendees for their contributions to Tech and invited them to visit the school often and interact with the students. He noted that changing classrooms, curriculums and demographics reflect a changing world, but “These are the same bright, hardworking, talented kids” that have always gone to Tech. And they are receiving a first class Tech education.

Alumni President John Lyons ’66 proudly announced that the Class of 1966 had raised $100,000 for the school. He then led the attendees to Room 6N8. Once a wood shop attended by all Technites, he hung a plaque acknowledging that this newly designed Industrial Design room was “A Gift Of The Class Of 1966.”
