The Recording Academy announced last month that Tony Agnello66 (Aero) has won a 2018 GRAMMY Special Merit Award. “My Tech education was instrumental in setting me on this path,” Tony says.

This year’s 12 GRAMMY Special Merit Award honorees are:  Lifetime Achievement Award: Hal Blaine, Neil Diamond, Emmylou Harris, Louis Jordan, the Meters, Queen, and Tina Turner. Trustees Award: Bill Graham, Seymour Stein and John Williams.

Technical GRAMMY Award: Tony Agnello and Richard Factor.
The Technical GRAMMY is a Special Merit Award presented by vote of the Recording Academy’s National Board of Trustees in recognition of contributions of outstanding technical significance to the recording field. Mr. Agnello & Mr. Factor’s Eventide created the underlying technology for pitch-shifting and pitch-correction devices, impacting the sound of classic LPs such as David Bowie's Low, Kraftwerk's Computer World and AC/DC's Back in Black, among others.

After a concussion, Akhilesh Khakhar ’18 – one of Crain’s 2017 20 Under 20 – created a study app called PrepUp that helped him achieve a perfect ACT score. The app is a bit like HQ Trivia. He’s in the news again here.

PROM Dress Drive -- Donate Your New or Gently Used Dresses!
We only have 30 dresses so far and we need many more! Clean out your closets for your old bridesmaids’ dresses, formals, cocktail party frocks and send to Tech for our young women who are seniors, headed for the senior prom in June. We need dresses in excellent condition; these may be gently used or brand new. Gently used dresses should be cleaned (tickets from the cleaners must remain on the dresses) before they are sent to us. Each dress must be appropriately packaged so that we do not have to follow up with pressing. We are accepting dresses of all sizes. Your name, graduating year and contact information should be included so that we can send you a receipt for tax purposes. If you choose to buy a dress for donating, please send the dress and a receipt so that we can include the value of the donation in the tax letter we send you.

Send to Brooklyn Tech Alumni Foundation, 29 Fort Greene Place, Brooklyn, New York 11217; Attention: E. Sciabarra

We will be hosting a late March, early April Prom Dress Giveaway event so that Tech seniors getting ready for their prom, can “shop” in school first. Donations will be accepted through February 15, 2017. If a student finds a dress she likes, she will receive it free-of-charge.
