Annual Appeal Our Alumni Foundation has set a goal of getting 9500 donors for Tech's Anniversary. As seniors and the student reps on the Alumni Board of Directors, we are urging all alumni to give generously to support:
• exciting classroom instruction
• programs which help Technites develop their college portfolios
• events that connect us to alumni in every career pathway
• extra-curricular programs which make student life unique
• professional development for our teachers so they remain at the cutting edge of their disciplines
• opportunities to do high level research
• upgrades in facilities to create state of the art science and tech labs

Evening Wear Extravaganza - Clean out your closets for your old bridesmaids’ dresses, formals, cocktail party frocks and send to Tech for our young women who are seniors, headed for the senior prom in June. The Brooklyn Tech Alumni Foundation is accepting donations of dresses suitable for prom night. We will only accept dresses that are in excellent condition, gently used and cleaned (tickets from the cleaners must remain on the dresses) before they are sent to us. Each dress must be packaged in tissue paper so that we do not have to follow up with pressing. We are accepting dresses of all sizes. Your name, graduating year and contact information should be included so that we can send you a receipt for tax purposes. If you choose to buy a dress for donating, please send the dress and a receipt so that we can include the value of the donation in the tax letter we send you.

We will be hosting a late March, early April event so that Tech seniors getting ready for their prom, can “shop” in school first. Donations will be accepted through February 15, 2017. If a student finds a dress she likes, she will receive it free-of-charge.

New Grant from Con Edison - The original blueprint of Brooklyn Technical High School contains a greenhouse structure that has been dormant for at least 25 years. We are pleased to announce that Con Edison has awarded the Foundation a $50,000 grant to convert this used facility into a cutting-edge greenhouse with an aquaponics system that meets industry and university standards. This grant will bring the 85 year-old greenhouse back to life and into the 21st century.
The new greenhouse will have an aquaponics system, a vine crop unit, seeding and worm compost bin, tower gardens, pest management system, and a water cart system. There will also be an instructional and prep area just outside of the greenhouse. This will offer students hands-on learning experiences that will strengthen the environmental science/engineering curriculum. The “new greenhouse” will become an extension of the current Con Edison lab in room 3E12.

Good News - The Boys' Fencing Team won the PSAL City Championship with an outstanding team effort. The Foil team lead by captains Marco Ramdas and, Sammy Soumakis with Freshman Gregory Golker and Sophomore Jonathan Massey fenced in a long day of competition. The Epee team lead by captain Yehia Ellis, Daniel Zaretsky and Dexter Allan Reilly kept us in a tight competitive position for the entire day.

Enjoy the holiday season; we’ll be back in the New Year with more Buzz !!!!
