Siracusano '60 Mentors Young Entrepreneurs

More than 50 Tech
students voluntarily deferred the start of a well deserved weekend
recently to attend a lecture about entrepreneurship by Louis Siracusano
’60, the innovative creator of 49 companies, who
enthusiastically shared the secrets of his success.
Mr.
Siracusano delivered a high energy, humorous and engaging presentation
for more than an hour, as he inspired his young listeners to build
enterprises. He spoke of his joy in creating businesses and mentioned a
sign he proudly displayed on his desk which read
“We’re here to solve problems.” He
emphasized the importance of “mutual trust and
respect,” and noted that his success could not have been
possible without the loyal team of partners and employees he worked
with for many years.

Alumni College Outreach Day
Young alumni came
out in force recently to offer college advice to several hundred
current Tech sophomores and juniors. Alumni College Outreach Day was
organized by Tech’s Office of College Services with support
from the Alumni Foundation and the Parent Teacher Association of
Brooklyn Tech.
Giancarlo
Malchiodi, Coordinator of College Services/Advisement, cited a
reciprocal benefit of this activity: “Current Technites get
direct, unfiltered feedback from peers about individual colleges and
the college admission process,” he said, “and
alumni become engaged in the life of the school sooner.”

Banner Year for Tech Athletes
“This has
been an incredible year for Brooklyn Tech athletics,” said
Athletic Director James DiBenedetto before the start of the Class of
2010 Senior Athletic Awards Ceremony on June 1st. DiBenedetto beamed as
he rattled off a list of playoff success stories.
When
asked to summarize the year’s highlights, he mentioned the
boys basketball team’s first Final Four appearance since
1993, the boys wrestling team’s march to the finals in only
its second year of competition and the girls fencing team’s
progression to the finals. He also spoke glowingly of the baseball
team’s upset win over Cardozo and the grit and determination
they showed later in defeat to the powerhouse Grand Street Campus team.

Steppers Draw
Attention
The
spotlight shone brightly on Tech’s girls’ and
boys’ step-dancing teams this year, with major media
coverage, a documentary film about them nominated for an award, and
success on a national level.
Stepping
or step-dancing combines cheerleading and drill team moves, with
influences from gymnastics and dance. Participants use words, hand
